John Sweeney
John Sweeney started his career as graduate marketing trainee for Volvo Cars, twenty years ago. A degree in Politics from Exeter University was of limited value to Swedish car manufacturers so he acquired a marketing diploma for some enlightenment.
The variance between marketing theory and shop floor practice was very wide indeed. John sought to better understand marketing’s impact but there was no meaningful data available. Insights only emerged when he introduced metrics linking marketing to Volvo’s business results. A lifelong passion for aligning marketing to revenue performance had begun.
After a spell at strategy consultants McKinsey & Co, John joined Dataware Technologies as the dot.com boom was taking off.
He held a number of Sales and Channel Management roles as the company’s turnover rapidly grew to $35 million. He returned to consultancy in 1999 to build a Technology practice for Intelligentsia, UK competitive strategy specialists. The practice grew rapidly and John moved to New York in 2003 to create Intelligentsia’s US office. His team completed over 300 engagements for B2B Sales and Marketing Directors entering new markets, launching new products or facing new competitive threats.
Back in the UK since 2006, John now provides B2B marketing and sales support and training to fast-growing businesses. He is a Visiting Lecturer at The Marketers’ Forum and a member of the London Regional Board of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
In 2009, John became an accredited seller and deliverer of MathMarketing’s proven B2B marketing training, Funnel Academy, and facilitated planning program, Funnel Camp.
